Suehiro Maruo Maruograph Differences
First released in 1996, Suehiro Maruo's two volume collection of artworks "MARUOGRAPH" is very popular and has been reprinted several times with various expansions and special features. A brand new third volume was created in 2018. Starting with the first/oldest edition, I will outline the differences below.

Both books had thick hardcovers with a paper dust jacket. Pages were a heavyweight vellum texture. Vol 1 included essays (in Japanese) by Inuhiko Yomota and Mad George plus an interview with Suehiro Maruo. Vol 2 included essays (in Japanese) by Aramata Hiroshi, Tanemura Suehiro, and Nagase Masatoshi. |

The "EX" or "extra" edition came in a cardboard sleeve with a paper dust jacket and obi. The actual book was a softcover protected by a white glassine dust jacket. Page edges were printed a vibrant red color. Vol 1 added an essay (in English) by John Zorn. Vol 2 added many black and white drawings and sketches. |

The "DX" or "Deluxe" edition was a softcover book with printed obi and dust jacket with foil accents. Vol 1 added 32 pages compared to EX version. Gold foil accents on dust jacket. Vol 2 added 32 pages also. Silver foil accents on dust jacket. |

2013 | 426 pages | "DX" or "Deluxe" special editions were signed and numbered edition of 300 pieces which combined vol 1 and vol 2 into one massive book with the addition of six bonus pages. The book came in a cardboard sleeve similar to the EX editions. The paper dust jacket had special hologram foil accents. Page edges were printed a vibrant lime green. Numbers 1-30 included a small original drawing. |

A new revision of the DX edition 改 (kai) edition presents a colorful variation on the EX covers. Books are softcover with paper dust jacket and obi. Vol 1 added 20 pages to including 18 new works and an additional new essay. Pink edition is the "common" edition found in bookstores everywhere. Military green edition is limited to sales direct from the publisher, during exhibitions, and a few specialty book shops. Contents of green and pink editions are the same. The only difference is the dust jacket color. |
